DYLAN HERNANDEZ

Hi! I’m Dylan. My experience as a camp counselor and youth minister first led me toward counseling. I already had a strong foundation working with children and families, and I began to see how those skills could help people through challenges in other areas of life as well. That calling eventually led me to clinical mental health counseling and the work I do today. I earned my bachelor’s degree from Howard Payne University and master’s degrees in Family Ministry and Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Hardin-Simmons University.

I work with children ages 3 and older, adolescents, and adults. My experience with children and families continues to shape much of my work, particularly the importance I place on building relationships and involving parents as part of the process. I also work with adults navigating concerns such as anger, career decisions, divorce, guilt, men’s issues, and other life challenges. Across ages and concerns, I want to understand what is happening in your life and what you would like to change.

Outside of counseling, I enjoy spending time with my wife and our two kids. Family dinners, movies, and playing games together are some of our favorite ways to spend time. I’m also a Texas sports fan and enjoy cheering on the Rangers, Cowboys, Mavs, and Stars.

My Counseling Approach

Building a strong relationship with my clients is an important part of how I approach counseling. I want you to feel comfortable talking openly and know that you will be heard and valued. I’ll meet you where you are, listen to what you need, and work with you toward the goals that matter to you. I believe you have the ability to overcome the challenges you are facing, and my role is to support you as you work toward positive change.

How that looks will depend on who I’m working with. With children and teens, I use a trauma-informed, relationship-focused approach and work to build trust before expecting change. I also collaborate with parents at the beginning and end of sessions so we can work together toward the child’s goals. With adults, I use a client-centered approach that allows us to shape counseling around your individual needs. Whatever brings you to counseling, my hope is that it becomes a place where you can speak freely, work toward your goals, and experience meaningful change.
