SUYEON “SU”  JUNG

Hi! My name is Su. I earned my Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health and Counseling from East Texas A&M University. My own experience with counseling played an important role in my decision to become a counselor. After losing my father, I had the opportunity to work through my grief with a therapist who patiently listened, even when I needed to talk about my father and the same things over and over again. I felt heard and understood, and I was amazed by how much counseling could help someone through a difficult season. That experience inspired me to become an instrument of support for others as well.

I was born and raised in Seoul, South Korea, and my husband and I moved to Texas in 2015 when he began attending seminary in the DFW area. I love being outdoors and exploring new parks, especially Trinity Trails and Fossil Creek. I also enjoy traveling and meeting new people in new places. At home, I love playing the piano, especially classic hymns. And if I am outside, you will probably find me wearing a hat, no matter the season!

My Counseling Approach

Sometimes you may feel as though your concerns or your voice do not matter. Other times, you may feel frustrated with your own behavior or decisions, or find yourself struggling to know what to do next. I want you to know that I hear you. I hear your concerns, and I recognize how deeply you care about the things that brought you to counseling.

I approach our conversations with care and curiosity, without judgment. Your voice and values matter in the counseling room, and I want to understand not only what you are experiencing but also what is meaningful to you. Together, we can explore your thoughts and feelings, better understand the needs and hopes underneath them, and recognize patterns that may be keeping you stuck.

My counseling style is empathetic, collaborative, and personalized to your individual needs and goals. I use person-centered therapy, emotionally focused therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and solution-focused therapy to guide our work. Depending on what you need, that may mean spending time processing an experience and understanding yourself more fully. At other times, we may focus on reframing a situation, building skills to handle a challenge, or finding a healthier way to respond.
