NIELS  FALK

Hello, I’m Niels Falk (LCSW). I have been a practitioner now at CCFAM for 3 years, with prior experience in Residential Treatment Facilities and Medical care. These experiences have given me a diverse perspective on client stories. I have been given the honor of learning from multiple sources and levels of professionals.

I look to support my clients, assess their strengths, identify creative coping strategies, acknowledge personal stories of trauma, build relationships, and determine what values best connect to their decisions. I work primarily in individual or couple-based sessions. My training in Gottman has provided me with specific tools to better address couple focused issues of communication, find shared meaning, and reconnect friendships.

I offer both virtual and in-person therapy in Fort Worth, TX.

Some personal things about me: I lead a men’s group every other week with a group of my close friends. I enjoy spending time in nature, reading historical fiction or science fiction. I enjoy learning about modern history. I prioritize an active lifestyle and continue to play sports.

My Counseling Approach

My counseling approach for individuals focuses on learning who you are as a person first and foremost. I want to identify the roots of what is happening, but at your pace. I find that sharing stories and building that genuine connection must happen to accept guidance.

I want to promote a counseling process that will include our thoughts and ideas freely. A place where you can feel comfortable saying “this won’t work” or “I probably won’t do this.”  The solution that will work for you will work because you believe it. To get to that, I want to reassure you of your autonomy in the session.

To do this, I incorporate a person-entered approach to begin hard conversations with you in the lead. You will be able to share your story without judgement and find your abilities through a strengths-based perspective. This will help us determine what areas of strength may provide a creative solution or different perspective. The strengths can be connected to your values which brings a personal connection. With ACT or CBT, we try to look at how your values can better inform your thinking and decision making.

For couples, I take a Gottman approach. We focus on learning the couple’s journey–dating, engagement, marriage, kids (if applicable). Both individuals have personal perspectives on what brings us to where we are now. From there, I can assess and determine what tools can best support you as a couple and begin working on having a conversation that shows respect for one another.

From there, couples will have to practice putting these tools into practice. The friendship of the relationship is another critical step; the couple needs to remember what made their relationship so special to them. Finding a shared meaning–something most likely rooted in their goals, childhood, or personality–is crucial. Finding shared meaning means we have the opportunity to support our partner in what matters most to them.
