Hi! I’m Liya, a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate.
I was born and raised in China and came to the United States in 2015 to teach Chinese to preschoolers. I earned my Master of Arts in Counseling from Dallas Theological Seminary. Before beginning my journey in the counseling field, I spent over ten years as a teacher, working with students of different ages in various countries.
Throughout my time both inside and outside the classroom, I discovered how closely teaching and counseling are connected. I have always enjoyed getting to know each individual and discovering the uniqueness within them, and I came to see how effective counseling prepares people for positive learning and personal growth. This realization ignited my desire to pursue counseling and continues to shape the way I work with clients.
Outside of counseling, I enjoy spending time with my husband and daughter, exploring nature together, traveling, reading, and watching movies.

Life is a journey filled with ups and downs in which we shouldn’t walk alone. I believe counseling can help individuals manifest their own unique strengths and build effective skills that help them find joy and meaning in life’s ups and downs. In counseling, my goal is to help clients find their own unique strengths and build effective skills by walking alongside them in their current life journey. My counseling approach stems from Gestalt Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy, which foster personal growth through the development of self-awareness and self-support, enabling meaningful connection with people through learning how to express and manage their emotions in a healthy way. I aim to help clients find more satisfying ways of being, behaving, and belonging.
I work with children (3+), teens, and young adults. If you or your child experience obstacles that restrict you from living well and functioning fully, I’m here to help.
