For children, play is their language and way of expressing themselves to others.
Family Play Therapy is similar to Sibling and Group Play Therapy in that the focus is on the kinds of interactions happening and how to transform these. Family Play Therapy includes the whole family in each session using play therapy techniques to explore the family culture and interactional patterns. It creates a safe, accepting, and playful environment to explore family issues, so that everyone in the family has a part of the process. The therapist will collaborate with the family to identify how they would like to change and help them find the right tools to do it. Although there are serious issues being explored, Family Play Therapy sessions are very engaging, fun, and an effective way to see lasting change happen.
