Our staff offers both in-person or virtual counseling appointments. For virtual appointments, we consider age, accessibility, severity of symptoms, and responsiveness to treatment as appointments are scheduled.

What Do We Do?

Medication Management –

Medication management for mental health is a type of psychiatric care that uses medications as a tool to manage mental health disorders.  At CCFAM, we take a holistic perspective to treating mental health.  Once an initial evaluation and thorough health history has been obtained, the provider and you will work together to create an individualized treatment plan that helps meet your specific goals.  This treatment may include medication, therapy, and lifestyle modifications.

Genesight DNA Testing –

Our practice uses the GeneSight pharmacogenomic test. This test is used to analyze how your genes may affect medication outcomes. The results can explain how your DNA breaks down or responds to certain medications, including mental health medications.

Our PMHNPs experience includes having worked at Cook Children’s, Prime Behavioral Health, and Mesa Springs.

What is a PMHNP?

A PMHNP-BC is not a doctor. An PMHNP-BC is an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) who has received advanced education and training in providing a wide range of psychiatric and mental healthcare services to patients and families in a variety of settings. PMHNP-BC’s diagnose, provide counseling support, and prescribe medications for patients who have psychiatric disorders, medical organic brain disorders, or substance abuse concerns. They are licensed to provide psychosocial and physical assessment of their patients, treatment plans, and manage patient care.

Is something wrong with me if I take psychiatric medications?

Similar to taking blood pressure medications for hypertension, taking psychiatric medications for mental health disorders does not mean something is wrong with you.  Instead, this shows bravery and strength as you are recognizing your struggles and seeking help.  Sometimes, our mental health struggles can feel like you are walking in a forest, unable to see the clearing ahead.  Psychiatric medications can serve as glasses to help us to see the clearing more accurately and take bigger steps towards your treatment goals.

How do I play a role in my medication management?

At each appointment, we will discuss how your medications are working to determine if there have been any side effects from the medications and if any adjustments are needed.  Each medication will be administered at the lowest dose possible for each individual.  We will work together to obtain the information needed to make the best decisions for your care while creating an environment of open communication to help you safely meet your treatment goals.

What do I do in the case of an emergency?

At CCFAM, we do not provide emergency services or after-hours care.  If you are experiencing a psychiatric or medical emergency, call 911 immediately or go to your local emergency department.  If you are experiencing a crisis situation, please text or call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 988 or contact hotline for Tarrant County at (817) 334-3022.
